A man who was shot and killed by police after an alleged robbery in Westlake Monday morning was carrying an air pistol, according to the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation.

Devan Desnoyers, 26, was shot by police after allegedly robbing a CVS at Bradley and Detroit roads around 9:30 a.m.

After the robbery, Desnoyers crashed his car at the intersection of Crocker and Detroit roads.

Two officers fired their weapons after the crash. At the time, Westlake police Capt. Guy Turner said Desnoyers was either carrying a weapon or a realistic-looking replica.

Desnoyers was taken to St. John Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.

The two Westlake officers who fired their weapons — a 38-year-old man with 13 years of experience and a 28-year-old man with three years of experience — were placed on administrative leave, as is customary in officer-involved shootings.

Police believe it is likely that  Desnoyers is the same person involved in a string of CVS drugstore robberies in the Northeast Ohio area. Opioids were taken in those robberies. In each one, the suspect passed a note to the clerk, saying he had a gun."We believe four here, but we are looking at others outside the state," said FBI Special Agent Vicki Anderson.

Police said  Desnoyers' description matched the person involved in the other robberies along with the same kind of car.

Desnoyers was also facing charges in Fairview Park, including burglary. Fairview Park Police said he was a maintenance worker at an apartment complex and he would use his key to get into apartments and then steal cash, drugs and jewelry.
