A Family Dollar at the corner of East 55th Street and Harvard Avenue became the latest victim of a smash and grab early Monday morning.

This time though there was a witness to the get away. Kevin Schreiber was sitting on a porch near the corner of East 57th Street and Hege Avenue when an SUV and minivan pulled up around 3:30 a.m. Monday. A total of five people pilled into the minivan and left the SUV in a driveway on Hege Avenue, Schreiber told newsnet5.com.

After about five minutes, Shreiber said, the van returned with a smashed rear window and the five people carrying arm loads of merchandise.

"None of them had a free hand open, they could barely get in the vehicle that was the get away," Schreiber noted.

The store suffered a lot of damage from floor to ceiling, and windows and a wall were leaning outward.

The only description Schreiber was able to get of the get away was a dark colored SUV and that the suspects all had their faces covered with shirts.

Newburgh Heights, Cuyahoga Heights and Cleveland police were all at the scene investigating.

A truck was left stuck inside a Family Dollar on Broadway Avenue in Cleveland after an attempted smash and grab earlier in August.
