CLEVELAND - Extra security has started at Progressive Field. Beginning at Friday night's game against the Oakland A's, all fans who enter through Gate D will have to pass through metal detectors.
The metal detectors are part of a league wide security initiative being put in place by Major League Baseball.
"We wanted to roll it out gradually, again, so we could perfect our process," said Joel Hammond, communication coordinator with the Indians.
"Opening day of 2015, every club will have enhanced fan security with metal detectors at all of the gates," said Jim Folk, VP Ballpark Operations.
"In the big picture, safety comes first," said fan Sean O'neil. "I like the extra safety precautions, makes you feel safe," said fan Allyson Senk.
Gate D is the only gate with the metal detectors currently at Progressive Field. Gate A and Gate C will be added later this summer.
