Motorcycle passenger dies after collision with car on Lee Road in Cleveland

CLEVELAND - A 24-year-old woman has died after the motorcycle she was riding passenger on collided with a car on Cleveland's east side Sunday evening.

Diamond Nix, of Cleveland, died of her injuries sustained from the crash.

Nix was a passenger on a Suzuki GSX R1000 motorcycle operated by Chas McKnight, 25, of Cleveland. According to Cleveland Division of Police, a preliminary investigation reveals the motorcycle was speeding southbound on Lee Road. Neither person was wearing a helmet. A Pontiac Grand Am traveling northbound on Lee Road attempted a left turn onto Sorrento Avenue in front of the motorcycle and the vehicles collided. Both riders on the motorcycle were ejected onto the pavement.

Both motorcycle riders were taken to MetroHealth Medical Center where McKnight was confined for his injuries and Nix died.

The driver of the Pontiac, Doris Owens, 42, of Cleveland, was taken to Meridia South Pointe Hospital where was treated and released for her injuries. Owens' passenger did not report any injures following the crash.

The Cleveland Division of Police Accident Investigation Unit is investigating. The official cause of death will be determined by the Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner's Office.
