WESTLAKE, Ohio - A man who escaped from jail in Missouri was spotted by Westlake police officers on Tuesday.
Brian James Adkison, of Columbia, Mo., escaped from the Caldwell County Detention Center in in Kingston, Mo. on Aug. 10. Westlake police said the 23-year-old faces kidnapping, domestic violence and violating a protection order charges. According to ABC News affiliate, KMIZ-TV, the charges are related to a former girlfriend of his.
At about 4:30 a.m. on Tuesday, a Westlake officer tried to question Adkison, who was sleeping in a pickup truck at the Hampton Inn on Detroit Road. Police said he drove away, but was soon found in on Center Ridge Road in North Ridgeville. The truck tires were deflated by police stop sticks, so the suspect took off on foot.
Police from North Olmsted and Rocky River, and the Lorain County Sheriff's Office K-9 helped look for the suspect. Just before 10 a.m. police called off the search. As of late Tuesday evening, Westlake police say Adkison has not been apprehended.
Westlake police said the truck Adkison was driving had Pennsylvania license plates and was reported stolen in West Virginia. He is also wanted for rape and burglary.
Police ask anyone who sees Adkison to call 911.
