Man indicted in death of State Highway Patrol Trooper on I-90

On Monday, Cuyahoga County Prosecutor Timothy McGinty announced that a man has been indicted in the death of Ohio State Highway Patrol Trooper Kenneth Velez.

A Cuyahoga County Grand Jury charged 37-year-old, Joshua J. Gaspar of Columbia Station with two counts of aggravated vehicular homicide and one misdemeanor count of driving while under the influence. 

Ohio State Highway Patrol Trooper, Kenneth Velez was standing outside of his patrol car on Interstate 90 while conducting a traffic stop when the car driven by Gaspar struck Velez after swerving toward the berm to avoid another vehicle. 

Velez was laid to rest last week. 

Gaspar was arrested after the crash and has been held in the Cuyahoga County Jail on a $500,000 bond. His court date has yet to be set.
