WESTLAKE, Ohio - For an 11-year-old Mayfield Heights boy, life has given him a lot to handle early on in his life. Gabriel suffers from Burkitt's Lymphoma, a rare type of cancer that affects his lymph nodes.
The Make a Wish Foundation grants a wish to a boy or a girl who has a life-threatening disease, and the foundation thought it would be a great idea to kick off the holiday season with a surprise for Gabriel.
When a couple of Wish volunteers asked Gabriel what he wanted the most, he said, "I want to go to Disney World with my family."
As the fairy Godmother took to the stage and summoned Gabriel and his family to join her, she granted the wish.
"Gabriel thought he was at Crocker Park to enjoy the show and the tree lighting ceremony. When he found out he was granted his wish, he was extremely excited," said Ashley Korbas, who is the developing officer for Make A Wish.
The 9th annual tree lighting ceremony took place at Crocker Park in Westlake.
