OMAHA, Neb. - Five skaters represented Northeast Ohio at the U.S. Figure Skating Championship in Omaha, Nebraska this week, finishing in the top 10 in each of their divisions.
Hannah Rosinski and Jacob Jaffe, competing for their first season at the Junior Ice Dance division, finished in 8th place. This was the second trip to nationals for Rosinski and Jaffe even though this is just their second season competing together as a team. The duo finished third in the Novice division in 2012.
Jaffe's younger brother, Micah, and his partner Kimberly Berkovich competed in the Novice Ice Dance division and finished in 10th place. Berkovich and Jaffe are former medalists in the Juvenile and Intermediate divisions.
Both teams skated clean performances in both their short dance and their free dance portions of the competition. They were excited to represent Cleveland and the Pavilion Skating Club of Cleveland Heights where they train under the leadership of Coach Jackie Miles.
Another Pavilion Skating Club member, Jacob Schedl, will compete in the Intermediate Ice Dance division with partner Caroline Leadmon on Friday and Saturday.
Troy Tomasello, who represents the Winterhurst Figure Skating Club in Lakewood, skated in his third consecutive U.S. Figure Skating Championship and finished in 10th place in the Junior Men's division. Tomasello was the only singles skater from the greater Cleveland area to qualify for the national championship.
