CLEVELAND HEIGHTS, Ohio - Local figure skater Micah Jaffe and his partner Maeve Pascoe were given a send-off party Thursday afternoon from the Pavilion Skating Club at the Cleveland Heights Community Center.
The duo is heading to Boston to compete in the U.S. Figure Skating Championships next week.
Jaffe, a senior at Hawken School in Lyndhurst, and Pascoe, a senior at East Lansing High School in Michigan, are competing as a team for their first season together. Despite training across state lines, the duo found success this skating season. They qualified for the U.S. championships by placing 2nd at the Midwestern Sectional Championships held in Michigan in December.
Pascoe travels to Cleveland Heights on Thursdays and the team trains Thursday through Saturday in town, and then they travel back to Ann Arbor to train with their coaches in Michigan through the weekend.
Jaffe is the only local skater from Northeast Ohio to qualify for the U.S. Figure Skating Championships. He and his partner will compete in the Novice Ice Dance competition, which begins on Sunday.
This year's national championship is special because skaters competing in the senior level at the championships are seeking berths on the 2014 U.S. Olympic team.
