One of the drivers in a fatal crash on Interstate 480 in Brooklyn Sunday was driving the wrong way before the two cars collided, police said.

According to police, authorities responded to the scene at around 4:38 a.m. regarding a crash that occurred in the westbound lanes between Ridge and Tiedemen roads.

Preliminary investigation reveals a 48-year-old man was driving eastbound in the westbound lanes when he collided with a car driven by a 20-year-old woman.

The woman died due to injuries sustained in the crash.

The man was taken to MetroHealth Medical Center for treatment.

All westbound lanes of I-480 were closed between Ridge and Tiedeman roads due to the incident for around four hours. The lanes have been reopened.

Police said the crash - and what may have caused it - are still under investigation.

On Tuesday, two people died in a wrong-way crash on Interstate 71 at West 140th Street in Cleveland.
