PARMA, Ohio - The Marino family has been reminiscing about all of the good times and great memories they have of JJ Marino, their beloved son, brother, nephew, grandson and cousin.
The 23-year-old Kent State University senior died on Easter Sunday, after suffering serious injuries in a car crash while riding home from spring break on Saturday, March 30, 2013.
One of the stories the Marinos feel describes JJ best happened during his teen years. JJ came home very happy one day. When they asked him why he was happy, JJ said, "I just had a great day."
He spent the day at Ridgewood Golf Course in Parma, Ohio. When they asked if he went golfing, JJ responded, "nope." He said he was hiding at the bottom of the hill near the 16th hole. Golfers would tee off on 16, but they couldn't see the green or the hole. While the golfers were making their way to the hole, JJ would sneak out and put their ball in the cup, so when they got over the hill, they thought they made a hole in one. Needless to say, there were a lot of golfers who celebrated at the clubhouse that day. Little did they know, they had a little help from JJ.
When JJ's family asked him why he did it, he responded, "It just made people feel good." The Marinos say, that's who he was. That's what he did. That's the memory that they're going to work very hard, over the next few days and months, to celebrate.
