Guests who book Airbnb listings in Cuyahoga County will soon have to pay a lodging tax, the same tax paid by hotel guests.

Airbnb recently entered into an agreement with the county, which allows the company to begin collecting an 'excise tax.'

This means Airbnb will automatically collect the tax and then pay the county a lump sum.

According to county officials, more than 16,200 guests used Airbnb from March 1, 2015 to March 1, 2016. Hosts earned a total of $2.3 million.

This agreement comes just a few months before the RNC, when hundreds of Cleveland residents are expected to rent out their houses and apartments to out-of-town guests.

Cuyahoga County is the first county in the state to implement this tax.
