A new guide shows people what can and what should not get them arrested in and around the Republican National Convention this summer in Cleveland.

It spells out the public’s rights when dealing with police. For example, protestors can stand in public spaces, like sidewalks and parks. They can hold signs and even wear masks, but they cannot protest in the street without a permit.

But the guide is also a reference for Cleveland’s police department, currently under scrutiny by the U.S. Department of Justice.

“I think that a lot of eyes are going to be watching the Cleveland Division of Police to make sure that they are abiding by the Constitution, that they are not violating people’s rights,” ACLU Ohio Senior Policy Director Mike Brickner said.

A Cleveland Police spokeswoman referred newsnet5.com’s questions to city spokespeople, who did not immediately respond.
