BRECKSVILLE, Ohio - Brecksville residents say they heard an explosion before a house burst into flames around 10 p.m. Thursday.
One man died in the fire on East Sprague Road. He was identified as Ben I. Pfister, 87.
Neighbors were grateful more damage wasn't done.
"The house went up so fast I don't know how she got out of it," said Ty Weiss. "A really big boom, it sounded like a gas explosion."
Weiss ran outside to find his neighbor, a woman in her 80s, standing in front of her house, which was fully engulfed in flames.
"How she got out of the house I have no idea," he said.
Brecksville Mayor Jerry Hruby told NewsChannel5's Josh Boose that firefighters ran inside the home to get the woman's husband out. He was taken to Marymount Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Crews then worked to cut off the gas line.
