There are concerns from NewsChannel 5 viewers about their electric bills. Some are totaling in the hundreds for small homes.

Victor Hilton lived in a mobile home in Malvern. “I feel they owe me money back for all this money that I've been paying,” said Hilton. He told us he used minimal appliances like the fridge, the TV, and a few lights.

He did have electric heat but he had a back-up, too. “I have a fireplace I use in the winter time and my electric still run sky high.”

His bills were piling up with hundreds of dollars in the winter months and disconnection notices.  It got so bad he's been reading his meter twice a day every day to compare his numbers to what Carroll Electric charged him. He said things really started to heat up when those numbers were not matching. "It's ridiculous!" said Hilton.

Others in his mobile home park agreed. “My electric bills have never been as high as they are right now,” said Sharon Harter. She told us she used to live in a larger home. “I'm living in a lot smaller space, don't have nearly (as much room). The electricity used is more than I had in a three bedroom house heating the upstairs and the downstairs.”

After we contacted Carroll Electric, reps told us the company was willing to compare the electric meter readings and conduct an energy audit to help figure out what was happening with the bills.

Hilton hoped to find a solution so he didn't have to find financial help anymore. “I had to go this year to the Salvation Army, United Way and HARCATUS to have them help me pay just so I would not be shut off,” said Hilton.

Carroll Electric offers its members free home energy check-ups. For more information, call Carroll Electric at 330-627-2116.
