A foul odor and boxes of waste marked with biohazard symbols sparked an investigation at a Walton Hills warehouse on Wednesday.

A Village of Walton Hills spokeswoman said there was no threat to public health after a police officer discovered the waste inside a loading dock of Advantra Waste at 20400 Tower Drive.

A box trucked marked “Regulated medical waste” could be seen parked outside the dock. A village spokeswoman said the company transports hazardous waste.

The discovery happened before noon. The Northeast Ohio Regional Sewer District tested a nearby sewer drain and found no sign of contamination.

Officials from the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency, the Cuyahoga County Board of Health and the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio were on site investigating.

An Ohio EPA spokeswoman later said investigators found about 2,000 boxes of waste inside the locked warehouse.

A worker with Advantra Waste would not comment.
