CLEVELAND - In the shadows of the Westside Market sits Hansa Import Haus with traditional European food, beer and a travel agency inside.
"We've been in the neighborhood for just shy of 60 years," said President of Hansa Import Boris Music. "I had confidence in this area day one when I came here. It was very bad. I was robbed, broken in, beaten and you name it."
Music wanted to redevelop the location years ago. Lately, he said he's been inspired by how other people travel.
"Being involved in travel noticing, how young people travel to Europe, especially like to Prague, Rome and so on, you could see they're bringing back different desires and this is what made Cleveland," Music said.
Music has been working on building plans for the new complex for two years. They will build a new restaurant, renovated grocery store and brewery.
"We have partnered with Lasko Brewery of Slovenia. The brewery dates back to 1825, so pretty soon they'll be 200 years old. We will brew locally here their original recipe," he said.
Customer Joe Hocevar said Music has always been loyal to the community.
"I'm happy that Boris is someone who's involved in the Slovenian community, is expanding and I think it's a great opportunity for the whole area, Ohio City-area as well," said Hocevar.
Music plans to be open for business by October.
"This would be like my final vision for the area that I had since 1978 when I moved to this neighborhood," Music said.
