NORTH OLMSTED, Ohio - Saturday was an afternoon of family fun and free entertainment at Westfield Great Northern Mall in North Olmsted, for a good cause!
The festivities marked the beginning of a six-week food drive to help replenish North Olmsted's Oxcart Food Pantry, which took quite a hit during last fall's superstorm Sandy.
North Olmsted Mayor Kevin Kennedy got the program under way by recognizing the mall's recent $8,000 donation to the city. The funds will be used to purchase additional generators and to help replenish food and supplies the pantry lost as a result of the storm and resulting power outages.
Giant Eagle Watertower will partnered with Great Northern for the event by providing food items for sampling and by making the first donation of canned goods.
Non-perishable boxed meal kits, peanut butter and canned items including tuna, stew, chicken, pasta, fruits and tomatoes are among the most-needed items for the food pantry.
A collection bin will be located in the dining court from Feb. 16 through March 30.
