A local police department is warning residents about several recent car break-ins after one car had $5,000 worth of items taken.

Garfield Heights Police Department posted on Facebook that 25 break-ins have occurred since Dec. 8, mostly between Rockside and McCracken roads and mostly after midnight.

The thieves check car doors to find unlocked vehicles and then rummage through them, police said.

One resident on Littleton reported a $5,000 cosmetology kit stolen from her unlocked car while it was parked in her driveway overnight.

Two juveniles were arrested Saturday who were out past curfew and acting suspiciously around parked cars, but police are still investigating whether they were involved in the break-ins.

The department reminded residents to keep their car doors locked and change, money or other valuables out of the car or out of sight.

The department also asked residents to be alert to their barking dogs or motion lights, and to call police if anything suspicious is observed.
