WASHINGTON - Federal dollars have been awarded to the Garfield Heights Fire Department to help improve operations and safety.
"Our first responders put their lives on the line every day across Ohio," said U.S. Senator Sherrod Brown. "These funds ensure that firefighters in Garfield Heights have the resources they need to perform their jobs safely."
The $24,120 was awarded by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security's Federal Emergency Management Agency Assistance to Firefighters Grants program.
Officials said the money will help improve preparedness and resopnse times.
The Assistance to Firefighters Grants (AFG) program helps firefighters and other first responders buy protective equipment, vehicles, and gear, according to FEMA.
