Friends search for missing Ashland County woman Lynn Jackenheimer

ASHLAND, Ohio - Searches stretching from Ohio to North Carolina are under way to find 33-year-old Lynn Jackenheimer.

According to the Ashland County Sheriff's Office, Jackenheimer took a vacation to Nags Head, N.C., with her ex-boyfriend Nathan Summerfield, 27, and her two children. But Jackenheimer never returned.

Summerfield dropped off their 3-year-old son and Jackenheimer's 13-year-old daughter with family around noon on Sunday.

The several-state search started after Summerfield's brother called 911.

"I want to report a possible murder," Jake Summerfield told Ashland County dispatchers. "My brother was in North Carolina with his ex-girlfriend. He came back and said he strangled her and dropped his kid off and left."

"I don't believe she is in Ashland County. I don't believe she ever came back from Nags Head," said Captain Carl Richert with the Ashland County Sheriff's Department.

North Carolina's Dare County Sheriff's Department Chief Deputy Steve Hoggard said they searched Sunday from 5 p.m. until dusk for Jackenheimer. Dogs, deputies and helicopters aided in the effort. Deputies said they also walked Hatteras Island but found no sign of the 33-year-old mother.

Police said Jackenheimer last spoke by phone with family members from North Carolina on July 3.

Summerfield is described as a person of interest. Officers are looking for a silver Honda Civic they said he is likely driving. The license plate is FMV 7540.

"I never heard a bad thing about Nate," said neighbor Lorie Diehm.

"You need to turn yourself in Nate," said Jackenheimer's stepfather Raymond Johnson.

"We need to find Nate. He is a dangerous person," said Naomi Jackson, a friend of Jackenheimer.
