A former Euclid middle school girls basketball coach has been charged for unlawful sexual conduct with a student.

According to police documents, 22-year-old Kevon Kurtis Smith was arrested on September 30. Smith was a middle school girl's basketball coach and an educational assistant within the district.

Smith was indicted on eleven charges Wednesday including disseminating matter harmful to juveniles, unlawful sexual conduct with a minor and sexual battery.

According to court records, the girl was 14 years old at the time of the offenses.

The incidents happened between December 2015 and September 23, 2016.

Euclid City Schools released a statement about Smith on Wednesday:

We learned recently of the arrest and indictment of Kevon Smith, who previously coached middle school girls basketball and served as a educational assistant in our school district. We are shocked by these allegations, and it goes without saying that the District will be fully cooperating with the police in this matter. We have also taken steps to ensure our students and their families have all the support they may need during this very difficult time.

We have not employed Mr. Smith in any role during the 2016-17 school year and he is now prohibited from entering any school property or being at any school event. We cannot comment further about the indictment details given the need to protect private student information and to allow the legal process to go forward. Again, the safety and security of our students remains our focus at this challenging time.

Smith's arraignment is set for Nov. 1 at 8:30 a.m.
