Simpson Huggins III, a former internal auditor who filed a lawsuit alleging MetroHealth officials committed financial wrongdoing has withdrawn his accusations and issued a formal apology.
“I sincerely apologize to the MetroHealth System and Dr. Akram Boutros, CEO of MetroHealth, for bringing the lawsuit against the hospital. The allegations of wrongdoing by MetroHealth and its executives are untrue and inaccurate,” Higgins wrote.
Higgins filed the lawsuit last December, stating that Metrohealth administrators retaliated against him after whistleblowing executives used free Botox injections and took vacations on the taxpayer’s dime.
Officials responded by stating they will not pursue a defamation claim against him.
MetroHealth Board Chairman Thomas McDonald stated that an “objective external assessment of the claims confirmed that the allegations were fabricated,” and that Higgins and his attorneys at the Chandra Law Firm have no choice but to “acknowledge the truth.”
