Five dead after a string of homicides strikes Cleveland Friday night

A dead body was found stuffed in the trunk of a car on East 140th Street and at least four other people were pronounced dead as a result of shootings Friday night.

Police arrived to the 3000 block of East 140th Street in response to reports of a suspicious vehicle in the back yard of a home. Upon their arrival, police said there was a strong odor coming from the trunk. Upon inspection, officers found a dead body in the trunk of the car.

Fire fighters arrived to help open the trunk and remove the human remains. Police say a 39-year-old woman was arrested at the scene, but didn't provide any information on charges filed against her. 

Investigators are treating the incident as a homicide. 

Other Homicides:

  • A 69-year-old man was pronounced dead after shots were fired into a home on East 81st Street, according to police reports.
  • Witnesses told police two men were seen running from the scene of a shooting on the 13000 block of Lorenzo Avenue. Marvin Jackson, 51, was found dead in the driver's seat of a vehicle parked in the driveway as a result of gunshot wounds, according to police reports.
  • Police say a man was shot at an abandoned house and found collapsed in the street on the 11000 block of Hopkins Avenue. The man was transported to University Hospitals where he was pronounced dead. 
  • Police responded to reports of gunshots at a gas station on East 55th Street on Friday afternoon. Two men suffered gunshot wounds, one of whom, Irvin Greene, 22, died Saturday, according to police reports. Witnesses told police that two men robbed Greene and another man of $275 while they were in their vehicle. Another man's vehicle and the Hanini Subs were shot as well.
