A fire shut down the emergency room of Southwest General Health Center in Middleburg Heights overnight.

The fire department responded to the hospital on Bagley Road around 8 p.m. Sunday.

The emergency room was still closed as of 11 a.m. Monday.

Officials say the fire was confined to the cleaning utility room but it caused water and smoke damage.

Patients in the emergency room were evacuated to another section of the hospital.

Ambulances are currently being diverted to other hospitals.

No injuries were reported. It is unclear right now when the ER will reopen.
