LAKEWOOD, Ohio - Family members of Joseph Milan and MetroHealth Medical Center have confirmed that the 46-year-old Lakewood man who was run over by an RTA bus on Monday, has died from his injuries.
Our news partner at Patch.com reported a family member posted on Joseph Milan's Facebook page that he died on Saturday and officials at MetroHealth Medical Center confirmed his death to NewsChannel 5 on Sunday.
Police reports stated Milan was run over by the No. 26 bus at around 5 a.m. June 10 as he tried to get the driver's attention to board the bus.
According to the patch, A nurse on her way to Lakewood Hospital found him in the street, and after flagging down help, called 911.
Milan, an employee of Medical Mutual of Ohio, told her that the bus struck him and that it continued east after it hit him. She also told Lakewood Patch that he said he thought the driver saw him.
He was taken to MetroHealth Medical Center, where he'd been listed in critical condition since Monday.
The following statement was made by a family member on Milan's Facebook page:
Dear friends of Joe we would like to thank you for your concern, kind words and prayers during this difficult time. Joe was in MetroHealth Trauma Center ICU in critical condition since Monday. He was cared for by excellent physicians and nurses. With much sadness Joe was unable to overcome his injuries sustained Monday morning. Joe donated his organs through Life Bank and will help numerous people. We are in the process of planning his memorial service. Please refer to the obituary column in the Cleveland Plain Dealer within the next few days. Sincerely the Milan family.
No charges have been filed against the bus driver. Lakewood police are still investigating.
