Fairview Park police are working to stop catalytic converter thefts before more people become victims.

"We're trying to nip it as quickly as we can with the video," Fairview Park Lt. Paul Shepard said. "Also, we want to let the people know that we know who they are and that we're actively investigating it."

A surveillance video from an apartment complex on Lorain Road shows a large SUV parking in the parking lot. One man stayed in the SUV while the other got out, jacked a car up, and removed its catalytic converter.

This part can be sold at scrapyards for $100, Shepard said, and the theft took about 5 minutes.

Anyone who recognizes the car or the thief in the video is asked to call Fairview Park Police at 440-333-1234.
