Dozens of head stones at a Cleveland cemetery were vandalized over Labor Day weekend.

Neighbors near Erie Street Cemetery said several tall obelisk monuments have toppled over and others were uprooted. It appears the historic cemetery was disturbed over the three-day weekend.

Erie Street is Cleveland's oldest cemetery and many of the markers date back to the Civil War.

Neighbors wee shocked to see the historic cemetery damaged.

"It's Cleveland’s heritage and for someone to come in and vandalize it what does that do?" said John Latkovich said. "I mean you knock over a bunch of statutes what does that help?"

NewsChannel 5 reached out to Cleveland police, but there is no word whether or not an investigation is underway in the incident.
