Death threat against Cuyahoga Prosecutor Tim McGinty
CLEVELAND - Cuyahoga County Prosecutor Tim McGinty is under the protection of Cleveland Police after a death threat was made against him. The threat, posted on a flyer, called for $500,000 for proof of kill.
The flyer mentioned Tamir Rice. It surfaced less than two weeks after McGinty announced that a grand jury would not charge the officers involved in Rice's death. The flyer also mentioned race and class war and instructions for collecting the money anonymously.
Sources who received the flyer tell NewsChannel 5 that it was circulating around the West Park neighborhood where the prosecutor lives.
A Cleveland Police Department patrol car was parked outside of his house Thursday.
NewsChannel 5 reached out to the prosecutor's office. They did not have an official comment. Cleveland Police and the Cuyahoga County Sheriff did not respond to our questions.
NewsChannel 5 also contacted groups who protested the ruling. They have not responded.
