Cuyahoga County Prosecutor's Office to launch heroin awareness campaign

Aimed to curb heroin epidemic

CLEVELAND - The Cuyahoga County Prosecutor’s Office is launching a heroin awareness campaign to curb the heroin epidemic in the county.

County Prosecutor Timothy J. McGinty announced Thursday the launch of the campaign.  Television spots using the tagline "Let's Face It" will air next week and continue through early April.

The Prosecutor's Office is also launching a website with information about the epidemic.  Personal stories and tips about heroin can be found on the website.  Community links will also be available.

“This is a battle that our community has to fight on many fronts,” Prosecutor McGinty said at a press conference.

Various community partners are on-board and committed to help stop the demand of the deadly drug.

The Prosecutor's Office will work to educate the public about the problem with heroin as well as take criminals off the streets.

Heroin overdose deaths in the county have risen from 40 in 2007 to nearly 200 in 2013.  The drug now kills more people in Cuyahoga County than homicide, suicide, fires or traffic accidents.
