WESTLAKE, Ohio - Thanksgiving is days away but Crocker Park's annual Christmas tree lighting ceremony took place as thousands looked on.
Frigid temperatures didn't keep people away from what is a holiday tradition for many. For Jennie Porter, this is a great way to kick off the season. "Our family raised us -- it's the best holiday and we love it," said Porter.
Before the main festivities took place, The Make-A-Wish- Foundation granted 12-year-old Nicholas of Medina his wish for a UTV (utility terrain vehicle). Nicholas is battling Hodgkin Lymphoma. He wants to use the vehicle for fun and to help with chores on the family farm.
Santa decided to give his reindeer and sleigh a rest for the night as he arrived on a motorcycle to the cheers from the crowd. With the countdown from ten, the tree lit up and fireworks showered the sky.
Allison Sirianni brought her two kids down to enjoy the atmosphere.
"We came down to eat dinner. We were excited to hear the bands and excited to see the lights and fireworks," she said.
