Dangerous heat gripped northeast Ohio over the weekend and tenants at a Cleveland apartment building told newsnet5.com they had not had working electricity for a week.

That meant no air conditioning. Even ceiling fans couldn’t provide relief at 3421 E. 128th Street.

The tenants said they have paid their rent and are now taking their landlord to housing court.

If you’re getting paid rent, what are you doing with the money?” Angela McShan said.

A woman, identified as the landlord by tenants, refused to answer questions about the situation.

Outside temperatures over 90 can cause exhaustion or worse. It’s recommended people try to stay indoors, wear light-colored, loose-fitting clothing, drink plenty of water and keep an eye on pets, the children and the elderly.

The city of Cleveland has two cooling centers open on Sunday from 10 a.m to 10 p.m.

WEST SIDE: The Gunning Recreation Center is located at 16700 Puritas Avenue

EAST SIDE: The Zelma Watson George Recreation Center is located at 3155 Martin Luther King Jr. Dr.
