Cleveland Police, SWAT arrest kidnapper inside home with 3 kids

CLEVELAND - Cleveland Police and SWAT arrested a male who assaulted an east side couple and held up a home with three sleeping children Saturday.

According to Cleveland Police, officers were called out around 4:41 a.m. to 11225 Mount Overlook Avenue for a report of a female screaming.

Third District officers arrived on scene and found a male and female who reported that they were coming home from the bar when they were confronted by two males in their driveway. The males demanded money and pulled out a handgun, striking the boyfriend with it.

The suspects then took the couple inside the home where three juveniles, ages 3 months, 11 and 16 were sleeping. Once inside, the suspects began searching the home for money. As police arrived, both victims were able to escape and one of the two suspects fled the scene.

Because there were three young children inside the home with an armed suspect, Cleveland Police called for SWAT.

Once on scene, the SWAT Unit made entry into the home and safely removed the juveniles and apprehended the remaining suspect. None of the children have reported any injuries at this time.

The suspect appeared to be high on drugs was taken to MetroHealth Medical Center for evaluation.

During the incident a Third District officer discharged his service weapon however, no one was hit.

The incident is currently under investigation.
