Eight people were indicted for federal firearms or narcotics violations on Wednesday after a year-long undercover operation.
Joyce E. Minter, 50, Arllie Joe Jones, 68, Darryl Thompson, 41, Richard Smith, 59, Joseph L. Moore, 25, Brian Abernathy, 33, Christopher Scott, 32, and Thomas L. Scott, 31, were charged in seven separate indictments.
The arrests are a result of a year log undercover operation by ATF, FBI and the Cleveland Police Department dubbed "Operation Brownstone." The undercover operation targeted the illegal sale of firearms and narcotics in Cleveland's 4th Police District.
The operation also led to the seizure of 30 firearms.
"The illegal sale of firearms is something that plagues our community, perpetuating the problem of guns getting into the hands of criminals and becoming the tools used to commit violent crimes," Cleveland Police Chief Calvin Williams said.
Police arrested five people during raids Wednesday morning and are still looking for Thomas Scott, Christopher Scott and Richard Smith.
