Suspect in custody in Mr. Hero robbery that left 15-year-old dead

The Cleveland Heights Police Department has taken a person into custody in connection to a Mr. Hero robbery and shooting that left a 15-year-old boy dead. 

Sunny Patel, 15, was shot and killed Friday at his family's Cleveland Heights Mr. Hero restaurant around 8 p.m. during an armed robbery. Police said the suspect, a male, shot Patel once in the head, demanded money and fled on foot.

Surveillance photos of the suspect were released, along with a short description. 

Police said the man was taken into custody on Sunday around 9 p.m. after officers spotted a person fitting the suspect's description, according to the department's Facebook page.

Cleveland Heights police have not filed any charges against the suspect yet. The chief said detectives are still investigating the incident.

According to University Heights police, the same suspect committed a second robbery on Saturday in their city. No details have been released surrounding that incident. 

Patel was a sophomore at Mayfield Heights High School. The family told News 5 a funeral for Patel is set to take place on Monday at the Busch Funeral Home in Parma from 12-4 p.m. A gofundme account has been started to help pay for funeral expenses for Patel. Click here to donate.
