A man wearing a mask robbed a Cleveland Heights bank Monday afternoon.
CLEVELAND HEIGHTS, Ohio - A Cleveland Heights man was sentenced to thirty years in prison for committing seven bank robberies and attempting an eighth in 2012.
According to Steven Dettelbach, the United States Attorney for the northern district of Ohio, and Stephen Anthony, Special Agent in charge of the Federal Bureau of Investigation's Cleveland office, 40-year-old Kevin Walcott previously pleaded guilty to the seven accounts of bank robbery and one account of attempted bank robbery.
According to court documents, Walcott got nearly $13,000 in his seven robberies in East Cleveland.
"This defendant robbed more than a half-dozen banks during a month-long spree," Dettelbach said. "Each of these incidents put people at risk."
The robberies (all in 2012) are as follows:
-Oct. 26: Dollar Bank, 2200 Warrensville Center Rd., University Heights, $2,470.
-Nov. 1: Ohio Savings Bank, 2066 Lee Rd., Cleveland Heights, $690.
-Nov. 2: PNC Bank, 10900 Lorain Rd., Cleveland, $2,194.
-Nov. 5: Citizens Bank, 5710 Mayfield Rd., Lyndhurst, $1,021.
-Nov. 8: Key Bank, 911 East 185th St., Cleveland, $3,660.
-Nov. 13: Huntington Bank, 920 East 185th St., Cleveland, $800.
-Nov. 15: Huntington Bank, 20601 Fairmount Blvd., Shaker Heights, $2,069.
-Attempted: Nov 21: PNC Bank, 20711 Chagrin Blvd. Shaker Heights.
Walcott was arrested shortly after the attempted robbery at PNC Bank and was found with a handwritten note that read "I have a gun and a police radio. If I see police or hear the alarm you die."
This case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorneys Margaret A. Sweeney and Phillip J. Tripi, following investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and Shaker Heights Police Department.
