Cleveland City Councilman Zack Reed will push for legislation on Monday to ban the use of handheld cell phones while driving in Cleveland.
“Tonight I will urge Council President Kevin J. Kelley’s to hold a hearing to pass this very important piece of legislation for the safety of all Clevelanders,” Councilman Reed stated.
Reed cited a study by the Centers for Disease Control, CDC, that reported over 8 people being killed and 1,161 injuries each day in the United States that reportedly involve a distracted driver.
"Distracted driving is driving while doing another activity that takes your attention away from driving. Distracted driving can increase the chance of a motor vehicle crash," according to CDC.
