A Cleveland charter school administrative assistant, who received student payments, pocketed tens of thousands of dollars, according to a report released by the state auditor Tuesday.
Raebecca White allegedly admitted to auditors that she had committed theft while she was employed at Westside Community School of the Arts, after they found that 375 payments totaling $32,393 were directly attributed to her.
Auditors examined payments collected from students for four years, beginning in July of 2011 and ending in 2015.
“It’s not often we see someone stealing money paid by students for field trips and dress-down days,” state auditor Dave Yost said.
White was responsible for collecting and depositing student material fees for the school. She was the initial contact for student activity collections. She also received money collected by teachers for fundraisers and other activities.
The auditor's office said a finding for recovery was issued against White in the amount of $32,393. She was terminated from her position on March 26, 2015 for reasons not related to theft, according to the auditor's office.
