Catalytic converters being sawed off cars in RTA parking lots around Cleveland

In recent days at least three catalytic converter's, have been unbolted or sawed off of parked cars.

It's happening in the RTA transit parking lot in Shaker Heights located at the intersection of Shaker Boulevard and Green Road.

Catalytic converters are part of the cars exhaust system. They're made of metals including copper.

In other cases, police have said the suspects take the catalytic converters to scrap metal yards for cash, and usually get $50 and up.

Having one replaced can cost $1000, or the deductible if you file an insurance claim. An RTA spokesperson said police plan to stake out the area, because that has resulted in arrests in the past for similar crimes.

Another catalytic converter was reporter stolen from a RTA parking lot on the west side.
