A robbery suspect is dead after an officer-involved shooting Monday morning in Westlake.

The shooting happened after a robbery at the CVS at Bradley and Detroit roads around 9:30 a.m.

The suspect, later identified as 26-year-old Devan Desnoyers, fled the scene after the robbery and crashed his white Mazda at the intersection of Crocker and Detroit roads.

Two officers fired their weapons after the crash. It's unclear whether the suspect fired.

Desnoyers was shot and was taken to St. John Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.

Westlake police Capt. Guy Turner said officers at the scene tried to save him. No officers were injured in the shooting.

According to Turner, either a weapon or a realistic-looking replica was found at the scene.

Police are investigating whether Desnoyers is the same suspect involved in a string of CVS drugstore robberies in the Northeast Ohio area. According to Westlake police, opioids were taken in those robberies. In each one, the suspect passed a note to the clerk, saying he had a gun.

According to a spokesperson for the Cleveland FBI, Desnoyers' description matches the suspect involved in a robbery at the CVS at 3171 West Blvd on Sept. 5.

The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation, North Olmsted police, the Ohio State Highway Patrol and Bay Village police assisted Westlake police in the investigation.

The two Westlake officers who fired their weapons — a 38-year-old man with 13 years of experience and a 28-year-old man with three years of experience — will be placed on administrative leave, as is customary in officer-involved shootings.

"All indications are that the officers' use of force was appropriate," said Capt. Turner in a press release.
