CLEVELAND - On the football field at Saint Ignatius High School on Wednesday, coaches and players practiced for the upcoming season.
But, it wasn't that long ago that the Browns starting quarterback Brian Hoyer was on that field practicing. Quarterback coach Nick Restifo coached Hoyer back then and he is still coaching now. He recognized something special in Hoyer. "You could tell just by his competitive nature," said Restifo.
On the day Hoyer was named starting quarterback, "I was just so excited for him," Restifo said with a wide smile.
Through the years Resifo and Hoyer have kept in touch. Restifo went to Michigan to see Hoyer play in a college game and Hoyer came back to St. Ignatius at one point to toss passes to high school players, said Restifo. And still today they are in touch. "Brian and I text back and forth," added Restifo.
And you can bet that Restifo will be watching closely and with pride as Hoyer takes the field for the first game of the season next month.
