Bedford mourns loss of Carlywood principal

Carlywood Intermediate School is mourning the loss of Principal Paul G. Ward, who died Monday.

Authorities have not announced the cause of death, but the schools called it untimely.

Ward was with the school for 17 years, where he served as a special education teacher, coach, assistant principal and principal for the district.

"We are all deeply saddened and shocked at the loss of this great friend, colleague, and Bearcat family member," the schools stated, calling Ward an exceptional role model who was well respected by faculty and students.

Counselors are providing support to staff and students Tuesday morning, Bedford City School District announced.

The schools said its prayers and thoughts were with Ward's family during this difficult time. 
 
"Mr. Ward was a beloved member of the Bearcat family, and he will be dearly missed," the district said.
