Richard Sunday, 56, is lucky to be alive after an attempted armed robbery nearly took his life.
It happened at a PNC in Bedford. Just after 10 p.m. Monday, the man pulled up to an ATM. As he was trying to get money out, two carloads of teens pulled up.
One of them pointed a gun at Sunday demanding cash.
“Sunday looks at his hand and he appeared to be holding something, he wasn't sure what it was so he swatted the guy's hand away from him," said Detective Sgt. Rick Suts. "The hand came back and he shot at him, he actually struck our victim in the head--it was a grazing wound, near the back of his head."
Sunday drove himself to the hospital. Witnesses called 911 as the teens took off.
"I just watched somebody get robbed, and they had a gun, and I heard the gun go off, so I took off,” a witness told 911 dispatchers.

Police caught two 16-year-old boys during a foot chase. Two other teens, including the gunman, got away.
Police identified them and have warrants out for their arrests.
Suts reminds people to be extra alert at cash machines.
"You have to be cognizant of your surroundings that's what I always tell everybody," said Suts. "If you pull into a bank or a grocery store, and someone is there who makes you feel uneasy, go with your instincts and leave."
The two teens have been charged with aggravated robbery and could face more charges.
