One woman was killed and another hospitalized after they were struck by a vehicle Saturday night while changing a tire on I-480.
The accident happened around 9:14 p.m. on Interstate 480 westbound near the State Road exit in Cleveland.
Ohio State Highway Troopers say a 2012 Ford F-450 pickup truck struck the two women as they were changing a car tire on the side of the highway. The driver, 48-year-old Clark Justen of Brunswick, left the scene but was later found off the Ridge Road exit.
Troopers say one of the women — identified as 27-year-old Tanisha M. Matthews of Cleveland — was pronounced dead at the scene. The other woman — identified as 23-year-old Asiah T. Matthews of Maple Heights — was transported to MetroHealth Medical Center in critical condition.
As of Sunday afternoon, Asiah was listed in fair condition.
Justen was taken to MetroHealth Medical Center for evaluation and then arrested.
Officials tell News 5 they believe the driver was under the influence of drugs at the time of the crash.
The crash remains under investigation.
