An Akron homeowner told News 5 Cleveland that he and his wife held an armed burglar at gunpoint Sunday morning while police we’re in route to their home on Cordova Avenue.

According to police records, Dejuan McCraney, 38, was arrested and charged with aggravated burglary and having weapons under disability.

The 61-year-old homeowner, who asked not to be identified, told News 5 that his dogs alerted him to an intruder in the house.

He reached for his antique pistol in on this nightstand as the bedroom door started to open.

“I just went up to the door pulled it open and stuck it in his face,” said the homeowner.

The homeowner said he was unable to tell if McCraney was armed as he pushed him back into the living room, telling his wife to call 911.

“She grabbed the phone, ran out into the living room and at the same time retrieved her 9mm,” he said.

Soon, both husband and wife were holding McCraney at gunpoint. After 8 minutes, Akron police arrived and immediately took the suspect into custody.

The homeowner said it wasn’t until investigators were processing the scene that they found a 9mm semi-automatic handgun in the sweatshirt that McCraney left on the couple’s couch.

“He could have had his [gun] or a knife,” the homeowner told News 5.  “My wife and I could be dead right now. We don’t know."

McCraney was previously convicted of attempted aggravated murder in 2001 and lives in Akron.
