WARRENSVILLE HEIGHTS, Ohio - A section of I-480 westbound was shut down for hours Sunday in Warrensville Heights following a deadly accident where a man was struck by a vehicle while changing a tire, according to a city spokesperson.
Police dispatchers from Warrensville Heights and North Randall said they received a call around 3:30 p.m. reporting a person struck near the Northfield Road entrance.
The City of Warrensville Heights spokesperson confirmed the male victim was changing a tire on the side brim when he was struck by another vehicle.
As of 5:50 p.m., the Warrensville Heights spokesperson said the victim died from his injuries. His name was not released.
The spokesperson also said the driver of the striking vehicle stopped at the scene.
The westbound lanes of I-480 were shut down between Miles Road and Lee Road for over five hours, as well as the Northfield Road entrance ramp to I-480 westbound. All lanes re-opened around 8:40 p.m.
The accident remains under investigation.
