Suffield Township gas station canopy falls over, just missing customer

SUFFIELD TOWNSHIP, Ohio - A gas station canopy completely toppled over at a Suffield Township gas station in Portage County.

Suffield Fire Chief says it happened around 1:45 p.m. Saturday at the Marathon gas station at 1437 State Route 43.

The Fire Chief says the station is extremely busy all of the time, and it is fortunate no one was hurt.

The weakening of the structure and high winds caused the canopy to fall over, just missing a vehicle. The driver of that vehicle just finished pumping gas and was pulling off when it fell.

The quick reaction of the store employees to shut off the power prevented additional problems.
