A 9-year-old boy sustained "life-threatening" injuries after he was struck by a car while sledding Tuesday.

The boy was sledding at a popular hill in North Ridgeville near the intersection of Hunter Lake Drive and Meadow Lakes Blvd just after 5 p.m. when he slid into the road. As the sled went into the roadway, he collided with a car.

The boy was taken to St. John's Medical Center and then taken by medical helicopter to the MetroHealth Medical Center.

newsnet5.com was at the scene as police reconstructed the accident and towed the car.

The speed limit in that area is 25 mph.

One neighbor said the boy's family was cooking dinner when the tragedy struck.

"I ran out of the house as quick as possible to help respond and lend a helping hand," said a neighbor who did not want to be named. "Before I knew it the local police, fire department, EMS was on scene so kudos to them, they responded faster than no one can imagine."

The boy was listed in critical condition Wednesday morning.
