CLEVELAND - The 80-year-old woman accused of leaving the accident that killed 13-year-old Charles Kho was found guilty on Friday.
On . 17, 2011, police said Kho was walking down Cook Road in Olmsted Township when he was hit by a car. The teen was passing out invitations to friends to his birthday.
Helen Fettes, of Olmsted Falls, originally pleaded not guilty, but changed her plea to no contest on charges of vehicular homicide, tampering with evidence and failure to stop after an accident. Cuyahoga County court officials said she was found guilty and will be sentenced on Jan. 14.
The medical examiner's office said Kho died of blunt force trauma to his head and it was ruled an accident. He died on his 13th birthday and his organs were donated.
While police were searching for the hit-and-run driver after the crash, an employee at the Ganley Automotive Body Shop tipped off officers. The employee said Fettes brought in her car for body work and insisted on paying without reporting it to her insurance company.
