10 ways to spend Valentine's Day in Cleveland

Valentine's Day is right around the corner. Whether you're celebrating with your friends and calling it "Galentine's Day" or you're with a loved one showing how much you care, there are events going on around the city to show how much you appreciate your other half. 

1. American Psycho Valentine'sDinner

This is probably the exact opposite of what you might expect on Valentine's Day. Everything from food to decor will be very untraditional. There are no reservations required, but get there early. Event lasts from 7:00 PM to 9:30 PM

$15 per person includes:

- Choice of our American Psycho martini (garlic-infused vodka, vermouth, olive) or a can of 4 Loko 
- Forbidden Black Rice Ramen Bowl
- Tender Steak tips with a lovely blood & red wine sauce, mixed vegetables & rice

2. Free ice-skating at the Cleveland Foundation Rink

The Cleveland Foundation announced plans to present a free skating event in the Cleveland Foundation Skating Rink on Valentine's Day.

Anyone who visits the rink on Valentine's Day will be able to skate for free between 3p.m. and 11p.m. on February 14th.

A free skating pass can be picked up at the skate rental kiosk beginning at Noon. Tickets are first come, first served and will give each skater a free skate rental, and a 45-minute skating session on the ice.

No more than 150 tickets will be given out for each session.

3. Cleveland Jazz Orchestra

What is more romantic than Jazz music? An evening of romance awaits for you at the Kent State Performance Art Center. Watch the Cleveland Jazz Orchestra perform new compositions from new and veteran artists. Tickets start at $27 and the concert begins at 7:30 p.m.

4. Valentine's Day at the Velvet Tango Room

Enjoy some of the city's finest cocktails with music and Banana Foster served table side.

No reservations needed or taken for the front bar or lounge area.

Jazz trio plays 5:30 p.m. -7:30 p.m. and the pianist is from 7 p.m. - 10 p.m.

5. "Unknown Notebooks" at the Cleveland Museum of Art

Expressing how much you love someone on paper and through words is as romantic as it gets. If you like art and letters check out Brooklyn-born artist Jean-Michel Basquiat.

His exhibition is filled with numerous notebooks with poetry, wordplay, sketches, and personal observations ranging from street life and popular culture to themes of race, class, and world history. The first major exhibition of the artist’s notebooks, Basquiat: The Unknown Notebooks features over 150 pages of these rarely seen documents, along with related works on paper and large-scale paintings.

6.Cleveland Uncorked: Performer's Showcase

This event is perfect for a group of friends who all like drink wine and watch performing art such as poems and musical acts. Enjoy tastings, a glass, or even a bottle of wine with friends and loved ones.

Event starts at 7:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.

7. Orchid Mania at the Cleveland Botanical Gardens

Flowers are just one way to someone's heart. Enjoy a tour of the Orchid Mania show while enjoying Prosecco and chocolate-dipped strawberries with your valentine.

8. Tabletop Board and Game Cafe

If you're celebrating Valentine's Day with good friends, bonding over board games and booze is fun and nonconventional way to celebrate the day. With over 1,000 board games to choose from, you can won't have any trouble choosing childhood games or new ones like Cards Against Humanity,

9. A special viewing of "Love Affair" at the Cleveland Institute of Art Cinematheque

Watch a 1939 black and white film of  "Love Affair" in one of the city's best theaters.

Special admission for couples $18. Individual tickets $11; members, CIA & CSU I.D. holders, and those age 25 & under $8; no passes, twofers, or radio winners.
